EDUCATION BEYOND EXPECTATIONS
Children need more than academic knowledge; they need emotional growth and social skills to navigate the challenges they will face in their next educational steps – and life! We do more than prepare students for middle school; we give them a love of learning!
Alameda advances your child's education with Common Core Academics that establish and strengthen academic skills. We have achieved Level 5 (out of 5) on Oregon State Achievement data for grades 3-5. Our highly experienced team, many of whom have been teaching at Alameda for 10-plus years, are dedicated to seeing each child reach their full potential through a strong focus on academic basics and individual attention - ensuring every child reaches or exceeds their milestones. Our scholars are prepared for tomorrow and all the days to come.

Children deserve experiences that develop the whole child – including social-emotional skills. Alameda opens eyes, ears, and minds to the wonders of the world as we develop well-rounded learners who will be ready for any future challenge.
Education is a partnership between Alameda staff, students, and our wonderful, active parents. We are truly a community of support for children. These programs would not be possible without the dedicated support of our PTA's fundraising and volunteer efforts.
Hands-On Learning
The Discovery Garden is located on the SE corner of the school property. The garden features native habitat, edibles, a butterfly habitat, and several classroom-specific raised beds. The Garden Committee works in conjunction with classroom teachers to provide students with a hands-on laboratory for learning about gardens and the environment.
Readers Are Leaders
Battle of the Books is a friendly statewide reading competition for students in grades 3rd-5th. Teams made up of four students read 16 assigned books (generally four books per child) and then “battle” over comprehension questions. Students may form their own four-person team or can be matched up with a team by coordinators. Alameda’s Battle of the Books is part of a national reading incentive program. The winning team from Alameda advances to a regional competition.
Make Your Move
Students meet weekly before school for chess instruction and some friendly competition. Students have the opportunity to compete in tournaments as well. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Alameda 5th grade teacher Mr. Sisk and parent volunteers oversee weekly meetings.
Grab a Book
This program is based on the SMART reading program. A parent volunteer coordinator matches parent and community volunteers with teacher-nominated kindergarten through 3rd-grade students needing extra one-to-one contact to improve reading skills. Volunteers meet with the children for half an hour once per week during school hours. Most children are assigned two Reading Friends, and most volunteers are assigned two students.
Tell Us More
This monthly celebration tea provides students an opportunity to read a writing sample to their families. Teachers select a different student each month. All Alameda students will participate once while attending Alameda School. Family members receive personal invitations to the library to listen and enjoy. Volunteers help with setup.
Let's Have a Moment of Science
Individuals and groups of students are invited to present their own science experiments at this event. Projects include a hypothesis and demonstration of how students attempted to prove their theories. At the fair, students share their ideas and what they learned with visitors and teacher-evaluators. Parent volunteers provide pre-event organization and support for the science fair evening.

Sustainability
The Alameda Student Green Team is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders and offers a great opportunity for students to learn new leadership skills and build upon their interest in protecting our environment. Students participate in discussions about Alameda's current use of resources (lights, paper, energy, food waste) and generate ideas to curb waste and promote awareness.
Community Service
The Community Service Club is a parent-led afterschool program designed to engage students in service projects and fundraising benefitting the greater community.
